Warpaint - Warpaint

(2014) Rough Trade
Rating: 8

Review Summery: Ecstasy and damnation. The sound of the netherworld beckons.

Ambience. Brooding minimalism. I think Theresa Wayman has been hanging out with James Blake again. The influence on tracks such as 'Hi' are undeniable while the longing for drum machine-laced ambient minimalism is running theme throughout. It is a logical progression from their previous instalment, retaining and amplifying the dark menace which has long defined their sound. A sound which tries to imagine and emulate the feeling of peering upon the dance of the fairies; a mythological, magical danger that is far to enticing to resist. It is the music of mystical intoxication, of slowing being drawn into an ethereal trap of forbidden pleasure. This is sultry without being sexual. This is ecstasy as well as damnation. This is Warpaint.
